The title of this year’s advent concert was inspired by Benjamin Brittens work “A Ceremony of Carols”, parts of which were performed to honor his 100th anniversary. We also sang carols and choral works from Germany, USA, Austria, France, and Africa. As guests we welcomed the Otterberg childrens choir “Singing Squirrels” directed by Mrs. Suann Strickland. The following musicians participated in our concert: Larissa Schmitt (Harp), Elisabeth Ramirez (Violin), Carolyn Sierichs (Flute) and Jon Friedman (Percussion).

Our program for the evening featured a variety of pieces that - despite being of different origin and musical style - share a common theme: peace and freedom. Our centerpiece, Antonio Vivaldi’s Gloria (RV589), was performed with soloists Meike Wilding (Soprano) and He Sui (Mezzosoprano) and a chamber orchestra that had been assembled specifically for this concert. Another highlight was the performance of Alexander Glazunov’s Concerto in E-flat major for Alto Saxophone and String Orchestra with Gregg Wrenn (Saxophone).

The Rheinland-Pfalz International Choir presented their 2013 spring concert, Grant Us Peace, in the Ramstein North Chapel. The Ramstein Intermediate School Singsations! children’s choir, directed by Ms. Brenda Barbour, joined the Rheinland-Pfalz International Choir for several musical pieces in the concert. The Grant Us Peace concert program included selections from composers such as John Rutter (The Lord Bless You and Keep You), Felix Mendelssohn (Verleih uns Frieden), Ola Gjeilo (The Ground), Guiseppe Verdi (Va, Pensiero), John Leavitt (Ose Shalom), Frank Ticheli (Earth Song), and many others.

Our centerpiece, Antonio Vivaldi’s Gloria (RV589), was performed with soloists Judith Devise (Soprano) and He Sui (Mezzosoprano) and a chamber orchestra that had been assembled specifically for this concert. The Rheinpfalz newspaper notes in the article “Arcs of Suspense in the Lutherkirche” from May 15:
(The choir) fascinated with stylistic competence and unified sound in Vivaldi’s “Gloria”, which in its exact harmony with the chamber orchestra turned into an overwhelming concert success.
